Right now we have an opportunity to meet a critical need in Ireland

Ireland boasts areas of outstanding natural and historical beauty.

An Taisce - The National Trust for Ireland, one of the country’s largest and oldest environmental organizations, has been gifted some of these areas over the past 75 years to maintain for the public. Their mission is to protect and celebrate Ireland's natural and built environment for present and future generations, and to ensure Ireland leads the way in defending a livable planet.

Americans can be a formidable force fueling An Taisce’s vital mission.

Americans for An Taisce cultivates support for An Taisce, brings attention to An Taisce’s current activities, and offers Americans an active role in protecting Ireland’s heritage and safeguarding its future.

With greater financial support, An Taisce will be able to streamline operations and have more boots on the ground where it is needed most - reaching everyday people in their own communities.

An Taisce’s staff educate about smarter ways to change our behavior, advocate for habitats that are in urgent need, and identify opportunities for the public to get involved. An Taisce does all of this with only a few dozen staff and the help of thousands of volunteers. The An Taisce Advocacy Unit relies nearly entirely on membership fees and donations to fund its crucial planning and policy work. This is a small but dedicated team of experts working to ensure that Irish communities are protected and maintained in a sustainable way. The more resources An Taisce has, the more work they can do to protect nature, conserve Ireland’s built heritage, and ensure that national and EU environmental laws are adhered to.

In recognition of An Taisce - The National Trust for Ireland’s 75th anniversary, Americans for An Taisce seeks to raise a minimum of $75,000 in its first year. Will you help us reach our goal by making a gift to An Taisce today?

Clean waters for Ireland

Ireland's meteoric economic progress over the past four decades has been an incredible success story but, as in other advanced countries, has accelerated pressure on the vulnerable Irish environment.

Twenty years ago, Ireland could count 500 clean water bodies. Now, this number has been dramatically reduced to only 35. The need for greater protections for clean water bodies is evident at places like Booterstown Marsh, a nature reserve and the only remaining saltmarsh on the south shore of Dublin Bay.

The marsh is set in an urban environment and provides an essential refuge and habitat for migratory birds and wintering waterfowl. It is also home to 69 different plants that fall under the protection of the Wildlife Act (Flora Protection Order of 1987), a fact that will contribute positively to the proposal for NHA designation which would give the marsh important recognition outside Ireland.
